The beverage industry encompasses the manufacturing, packaging, and distribution of consumable liquids. It is a major sector that impacts virtually every member of society daily. A wide variety of thirst-quenching and caffeinating drinks are produced to satisfy consumers globally. There are arguably as many types of beverages as there are tastes, each with its own unique production and packaging requirements.

Carbonated soft drinks or "sodas" like cola and lemon-lime are some of the highest-volume beverages produced. These are syrups combined with carbonated water in high-speed machinery. Rigid plastic bottles have become the standard package despite environmental concerns.
Non-carbonated drinks are also predominant. Juices, teas, waters, and sports drinks necessitate the pasteurization and aseptic packaging of liquids to ensure safety and shelf life. Glass bottles, aluminum cans and aseptic paper-based cartons are commonly used.
Alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and spirits have an even longer production cycle involving fermentation and aging processes. Varied glass bottles, cans, kegs, and aseptic bags suit their needs. Ready-to-drink cocktails are a growing niche using similar formats to soft drinks.
Dairy and plant-based milk alternatives also fall under the broad beverage umbrella. Aseptic filling into cartons and jugs is ideal given their perishability. On-the-go yogurt and coffee drinks utilize plastic bottles and cartons.
An eco-friendly alternative for some beverages are paper pulp packaging boxes which are lightweight, 100% recyclable, and compostable. Especially suitable for juices, teas and other non-carbonated liquids.
