How to create a torrent file for p2p file sharing

If you ever have a file with a large file size and you wanted to share it, you might be wondering..... Hmmm, how do i share my heavy file?. Now could try to compress the file using an archiving tool like WinRAR but that only reduce the file size to a couple of megabytes or you can use a peer-to-peer (p2p) file sharing service called torrent.

Now the way torrenting works is that by providing a download to the file you actually provide a seed to the download, when the person you share your torrent downloads your torrent he/she seed that download. Now the first download will be slow obviously but when the file gets downloaded a couple of times, the download speed will increase to the point where you don't have to wait for the file to download.

Now in this blog post, I'll be guiding you on how to create your very own torrent file for p2p file sharing.

Step 1 - download a torrenting software

you can find a variety of software designed for p2p file sharing but the most popular one that I highly recommend using is utorrent. You can download utorrent here.

Note: u torrent is only available on windows, mac os, and android so if you want to use utorrent you must have the OS that I have mentioned or download another torrenting software.

Step 2 - run the utorrent installer

after you download utorrent, run the installer so you can use the software.

Step 3 - create your torrent

Note: this tutorial is for the windows version of utorrent

Create your first torrent file by click the file menu on the top-left of the utorrent menu bar→select 'create new torrent' option→now a window will appear, select your file in that new window & click the 'add' button. You will be prompted to select the destination of your torrent file. After you select the destination directory, wait until utorrent finished creating your torrent file. when utorrent is done creating your torrent file, you are now ready to share your torrent.
